NHS Fife, Lothian and Borders are seeking to appoint to a new post as regional consultant in occupational medicine.

You will be employed by NHS Lothian and will work closely with the 2 consultants in Lothian, 1 in Fife, and multidisciplinary teams in the Board areas to deliver consistent clinical leadership and advice. You will be based in Edinburgh with a requirement to travel weekly to Fife and the Scottish Borders on the basis of a 60:20:20 split. The total workforce served is in the region of 35 000 NHS staff. You will be responsible for the delivery of occupational medical advice to the Boards and their staff. There may be opportunities for you to deliver services to the external clients of the Boards across a range of industry sectors.

You will contribute to the clinical governance and quality systems aimed at improving the effectiveness of care. You will be offered opportunities to contribute to the teaching of medical undergraduates, to specialty and general practice trainees, and to those working in nursing and AHP disciplines.

You will work closely across the three departments to identify relevant clinical policies and standards, to lead on the agreement of common standards and policies in order to promote regional working in line with NHS Scotland strategy.

Your appointment will be on a whole-time basis under the terms of the 2003 consultant contract. Your job plan, subject to review, will contain 9+1 programmed activities with 1 allocated to supporting professional activities. Additional SPAs may be available to you within the job plan to support your other professional activities in line with the needs of the service.
