Lord Blunkett becomes the Patron of the Society of Occupational Medicine

The Society of Occupational Medicine has welcomed Lord David Blunkett as its Patron as it works to improve the health of the UK’s workforce.

Given his previous roles as Secretary of State for Work and Pensions and Secretary of State for Education and Employment Lord Blunkett is an obvious choice to help champion the agenda of health at work – and the vital role occupational health plays in helping people stay in work and live full and healthy lives.

Dr Sally Coomber, President, Society of Occupational Medicine said:

“Lord Blunkett’s career is an inspiration to many, especially those who are blind or partially sighed. We know that working is good for your health and mental well-being. Only one in four registered blind and partially sighted people of working age are in employment. In order to tackle this disgraceful inequality, it is vital that employers not only employ those who are blind or particularly sighted but ensure as employees they are properly supported in the workplace."

David Blunkett was made Baron Blunkett of Brightside and Hillsborough in September 2015.
