Monitoring and Protecting Working Skin - a skin surveillance session
Dr Katrin Alden will accompany participants in reviewing the legal and legislative considerations of skin surveillance followed by facilitating a case study and Q&A session. She will demonstrate the clinical features of hand eczema relevant to skin surveillance, describe common clinical treatments and discuss workplace adjustments relevant to skin issues at work.
Short bio
Dr Alden is an occupational health physician with a background in clinical dermatology and an interest in work-related skin problems. She is the lead clinician for the skin surveillance programme of a large NHS Trust and the Chair of the Society of Occupational Medicine skin specialist interest group. Dr Alden has recently been awarded a fellowship for the Academy of Medical Educators for her work within the field of medical education.

An introduction to social prescribing
This session will set the scene of social prescribing through looking at the policy context and current landscape of provision across England. We will explore the function that social prescribing can provide in both clinical and community settings as well as explain the role of a Social Prescribing Link Worker (SPLW).
Social prescribing is a core component of personalised care, and can help patients to improve their health, wellbeing and social welfare by connecting them to non-clinical support and services within the community.
Attendees will leave with an increase understanding of social prescribing within clinical and community settings, the role of a Social Prescribing Link Worker (SPLW) and an increased understanding of the growing evidence base to support the initiative.Presenter Bio:
Monica Boulton is the Healthcare Integration Lead for the National Academy for Social Prescribing and has been involved in Social Prescribing for nearly 10 years, initially as a Social Prescribing Link Worker and then moving into both strategic planning and delivery of social prescribing initiatives on both a local and national scale. Monica now leads NASPs Social Prescribing Workforce programme , and co-leads NASP’s clinical engagement work. Monica has a true sense for the difference Social Prescribing can make not only to people’s lives but to the health system and communities too. Monica is passionate about community development, and creative health and has extensive experience in the voluntary sector alongside providing some Social Prescribing System consultancy work.

Co-Chair, Global Alliance for Musculoskeletal Health (G-MUSC)Professor Anthony Woolf is a consultant rheumatologist previously at Royal Cornwall Hospital, Truro, UK. He has held honorary chairs in Rheumatology at the University of Exeter Medical School, Plymouth University Peninsula Schools of Medicine and Dentistry, and visiting Professor in Musculoskeletal Science, Faculty of Medicine, Lund University, Sweden. He is co-chair of the Global Alliance for Musculoskeletal Health (G-MUSC).
His work focuses on influencing policy and practice nationally and internationally providing the evidence for gaining priority and the tools to implement change to benefit individuals through prevention and control of musculoskeletal conditions. In particular he focuses on what we need to do through the lifecourse to support musculoskeletal health to enable us to maintain our physical capacity, remain in the labour market and for healthy productive ageing.
He works with WHO, EU and in the UK with NHS England, OHID/Public Health England and Department of Work and Pensions to ensure musculoskeletal health is in all policies – health, social and employment.

Tackling sickness presenteeism in organisations: What can be done?

Awareness of sickness presenteeism and its impact on employees and organisations is growing. Research shows a rise in presenteeism, particularly for mental health issues, with healthcare workers and home-based employees especially vulnerable. Although working while not fully fit can be beneficial, dysfunctional presenteeism poses significant health and safety risks. It can delay recovery, increase the risk of future health problems and absenteeism, and reduce productivity. Sickness presenteeism can also lead to errors, accidents and injuries, impacting not only the sick employee but also their colleagues and the public. This can be particularly harmful in roles involving the wellbeing and safety of others. To address dysfunctional presenteeism effectively, systemic, evidence-based interventions are required.
This webinar examines sickness presenteeism using insights from the recently published SOM guide and the authors’ own research. It considers the prevalence of sickness presenteeism, the contributing factors and its impact on employee wellbeing and productivity. Research from the education and security sectors is used to illustrate the varied causes and impact of presenteeism across different organisational contexts. A range of evidence-based strategies is presented to help organisations mitigate the harmful effects of presenteeism and promote a ‘healthier’ approach to sickness absence.
The critical role of occupational health practitioners in managing dysfunctional presenteeism is explored, along with practical strategies to address this issue. Time is also allocated for questions and discussion about this important challenge.

Speaker: Susan (Su) Chantry, Occupational Health Nurse
Europe & Africa Consulting PracticeSu Chantry is a Senior Occupational Health Nurse with the Europe & Africa Consulting Practice, based in London.
Su has extensive experience working in occupational health, specialising in evaluation and assessment of a wide range of work skills and capacities, with a comprehensive scope of occupational health management in the workplace.
Amongst her key competencies are, advising, implementing & managing health surveillance programmes, safety-critical medicals; conducting workplace risk assessments; planning and managing complex return-to-work rehabilitation cases; sickness absence assessments and ergonomic workstation evaluations. Su also provides public health advice related to work activities; oversees travel health and occupational immunisation programmes and addresses and advises on occupational-acquired illnesses and diseases.
Prior to joining International SOS, Su worked across a broad sector of organisations ranging from corporate and manufacturing, to nuclear facility sites, oil and gas, education, as well as Formula 1 motor sport. She has also been involved in practitioner mentorship, civil law expert witness case work, education and research, and has had several papers published in occupational health journals.
Su holds a BSc in Occupational Health Nursing, a Civil Law Expert Witness Certificate and a Certificate in Managing Occupational Health Services. She is also a member of the Society of Occupational Health Medicine, Royal Society of Medicine and Fellow of The Queen’s Nursing Institute.
