Dr Carton was the first female president of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine and is one of the UK’s most senior Occupational Health physicians.

She has worked for Transport for London for nearly thirty years advising Transport for London and in particular London Underground on occupational health policy and strategy. Dr Carlton heads up TfL’s multidisciplinary occupational health team.  She has ensured that TfL is taking the lead in providing drugs and alcohol treatment for employees seeking rehabilitation.

On learning of her OBE, Dr Carlton said:

“I am deeply proud to be honoured in this way. I have been fortunate to work within the two key organisations who support the practice of occupational medicine, namely the Faculty and the Society of Occupational Medicine.  I passionately believe that we need to embrace a multidisciplinary occupational health workforce to deliver truly effective occupational health support for the population of the UK. Much of my work has been focused in this direction. The achievements I am credited with have all been delivered through the actions of many, and I would like to thank everyone who has been involved.”

Dr Richard Heron, President of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine said: “We’re thrilled for Olivia and that her expertise and work has been acknowledged.  Her leadership across the sector has been an inspiration to all those who champion worker health – it is richly deserved”.
