At the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) they regulate and implement medical requirements for professional flight crew, private pilots, air traffic controllers and cabin crew. They also oversee the approval and continued certification of Aeromedical Centres (AeMCs) and an Aeromedical Examiner (AME) network. To this end, they are currently looking for an Aviation and Space medical professional to work with them as a Medical Assessor in Aviation (and Space) Medicine.
In this role, you will primarily be involved in a wide range of medical assessment and certification activities. This means that you will lead on case assessment, conducting associated correspondence duties as well as participating in appeals and enforcement activity. These assessments will be conducted both onsite at Aviation House, but also out in the field, and will see you integrate with all manner of partners and stakeholders, embedding you at the heart of this exciting medical field.
You will also get the chance to demonstrate your knowledge and expertise at the highest level. This is done through the provision of advice to government as well as the creation of policy. Through this you may go on to directly influence the way industry operates as well as influence thousands of lives. On a more local level though, your knowledge and experience will also be used to help them to shape the next generation of aviation and space medical professionals in the UK. About You
- GMC (General Medical Council) Licence to Practice
- On UK GMC Specialist Register or UK GP (General Practitioner) Register
- Consultant in Occupational Medicine or Consultant in Aviation and Space Medicine or experienced Aeromedical Examiner (Class One equivalent).
- Qualifications in Aviation Medicine: Diploma/Masters in Aviation Medicine
- Knowledge and experience in Occupational Medicine in the airline or related industry, Aviation and Space medicine (as an AME, MA, and/or working in aeromedical retrieval/repatriation)
Additional Information For many appointments within the CAA, these roles require access to operationally sensitive infrastructure and/or Nationally Protected information. For these roles the post holders must undergo National Security Vetting and achieve the appropriate level of clearance. To be vetted they will usually expect a reasonable period of residency in the UK so that relevant checks can be undertaken. This can either be 3 years or 5 years depending on the level required (CTC or SC). If you do not meet these requirements, they may not be able to accept your application.
