“Art and Occupation” - book launch
21st April 6-9pm
British Academy Reading Room, 10 Carlton House Terrace, London, SW1Y 5AH
Labour is an intrinsic part of everyday existence and images of people at work provide a fascinating insight into the potential impact employment has on their lives. Mike McKiernan’s Art and Occupation examines these evolving issues by critically analysing an eclectic selection of art pieces to reflect broadly on labour, revealing both its dignity and toll on workers, whilst elucidating the challenges facing occupational health care professionals today. To this end Mike presents his archive which he beautifully describes, illustrates and contextualises to the medical and social history of their day while mining implications for continuing public policy.
The event starts at 6pm and closes at 9pm. Refreshments will be provided. There will be a short presentation by the author.
The cost to attend is £20. The book will be available to purchase on the day at a 40% discount on the cover price, and can be signed by the author if requested.
